I was driving to work this morning and noticed that my temp gauge was moving like a windsheild wiper. When I stopped at a light, smoke came pouring out of the engine compartment. I popped the hood and there was antifreeze all over the place. I left it there. I couldn't do much investigating. I hope it is just a hose but what are the other possibilities? (New radiator and new heater coil put in about a year and a half ago.)
Also, I'm 15 miles from my house. Can I drive this thing home if I add more antifreeze?
Hoses would be a good place to start - check them all! Another suggestion is the rad cap. Make sure yours is in good shape, as they can leak if they do not seal correctly.
I wouldn't worry too much about driving it 15 miles - just keep an eye on the temp! Don't use antifreeze just yet, but plain old water - no use in buying antifreeze to see it leave a trail to your house. When you figure out your problem, then fix her back up with the correct amount of antifreeze. I would guess your t-stat is shot??
I was able to find the hole in a hose. ( it was rubbing on a pulley.) I taped it up filled the anti freeze and drove it home but now it runs rough. It almost sounds light it's mis-firing but idle, it seems fine. Did I do some damage?
