P0158 Engine Code Problems.....

My son took his 97 Explorer with a 4.0 V6 to Autozone to get the the code read on his check engine light. They told him it was a P0158.

Can someone please tell me what this code is and is it a difficult fix?

Get it re-read.

That is not a valid fault code for a 97 Exploder per the factory PCED.

Well a PO158 is a Mass Air Flow Sensor above maxium voltage.First i would check the voltage on it and see if it is right and if it is then I would try cleaning it first with a eletrical cleaner first and if that dont work then replace it.

It should be between 0.5 to0.7 at idle and then increase the rpms and it should be 1.5 to 3.0 volts.

One last thing,

Where is the mass air flow sensor located? At the airfilter box?

The MAF is located between the air filter and the intake,there are a few pictures of it on this site if you look but it is easy to find.It has two torxs screws on top of it and has a conector to it.The torx screws are #20 but have to be the ones with the holes in the bottom of the bit to fit.Just remove it and spray it with electrical contact cleaner and let it dry and replace it.
