Wow. I was chased by a coyote once while taxiing in a Cessna 182 at Santa Barabara Airport in CA. I couldn't imagine hitting an elk at take off speed. That pilot probably never even saw the elk.

Elk Causes Plane Crash
>No word on the moose?
From what I heard on the moose, it did not survive. The airport plans on installing fences next summer. If you ask me, just another inevitable effect of man encroaching on nature yet again.
I've run into some moose on snowmobile trails in maine. They like to walk down the trail because it's all packed down for them. Trouble is if you get behind one, they arn't scared and won't get off the trail. You also can't make them run, because they will sweat, get cold, and die. We see a lot of deer too, but they will run into the woods. Rabits and squirls are a regular occurence.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Dec-02 AT 00:01 AM (EST)]When I was a kid growing up in far NE WA state, my dad worked for the phone company. That was back in the days WAYYYY before microwave, fiber optic cables, etc. On several occasions, he got chased back up the pole by some wayward moose (meese? *LOL*). One time, he got stuck up there for quite awhile; had to clip in with his lineman's phone, call the central office 50 miles away and wait for someone to come "rescue" him.
And I don't think that moose's name was Bullwinkle....
Moose can be really nasty. I was hunting with a buddy one time, a big bull charged us as we were loading the truck. The thing came out of nowhere, and plowed the side of the truck. Luckily it was just a chebby, but it still banged the truck up pretty good. I have never seen an animal before that stood over 7ft tall, with a 5+ foot rack actually move through the woods before, but this thing ripped through the trees at about 20mph. Just like nothing was in it's way. And, it walked away from the encounter with the truck. If you get behind a moose on a sled trail, just stop and wait about 15 minutes with your engine off. If you harrass it, it will kill you.
Aren't moose more fun than elk?
