Driveshaft question??

Driveshaft question??
I had a driveshaft made for my 74 F100 stepside shortbed not too long ago and finally got around to installing it. Ran into a problem though. Where the U joint on the driveshaft connects to the differential, the bearing caps that were put on the driveshaft do not fit. They are too big. The straps do not fit around them. My question is can those bearing caps be replaced with smaller ones? Is it that simple?
