So I just purchased A 96' E-350 7.3 with a nice body and 180k miles on it at a steal at $1800... the only issue it has is the drive-shaft which I believe is bent cause I get a drive-line vibration that increases with speed and only starts around 45-50mph and I know its not the tires cause I balanced them at my shop.. Now my question is, can the newer aluminum drive-shaft in any way fit on my older van? Direct swap? Swapping out the yolks, Ect.? I would rather have the aluminum drive-shaft to lighten up my rotational mass to help with fuel economy plus, I won't be doing any towing, or loading the van too heavy, so I don't really care if the steel drive-shaft is stronger or what not.. BTW it has the E4OD trans in it and is the SWB model. Thanks.
I'm not worried too much about the length as I did some reading up and found out the E4OD and 4R100 trans cases are almost identical besides they added another VSS and some internal parts they changed to address some reliability issues, I'm more worried about the output shaft diameter and spline count
The size of the u -joint is irrlelevant........You can get different size Caps in all Dimensions...you use the Yoke in question ...Then work your way back...... Not that big of a deal, Just make sure the system is balanced and you will be Beauty....
