Ok drained the filter. The water fuel separator is all one unit now, and the old seperator is not in use. Pulled the governor housing off the IP and pumped all the fuel out and replaced it with diesel kleen and fuel. Furl in there was a dark brown color, not the yellow color that I put in fresh yesterday. The bolts looked like normal bolts, and I got the 1/4 inch ones and they are too short so I put the old ones back. It started up great the first time rhwn I first drained the water fuel sep. filled it with raw diesel kleen, no fuel. seemed like after the diesel kleen got mixed with the fuel it started sputtering again.only ran good for about 5 seconds. Blead each injector like said above, and still nothing. I dont know If I hooked the governor back up right or not, does anyone have a diagram of how that works? My dad has a friend that is gunna look at it, he restores old fords and has restored a bunch of 7.3's to like new condition. If he can't fix it or figure out what is wrong with it my dad is selling it and buying me a new one. I dont want a new truck, I love my truck, but its really beginning to be a pain in the *** to fix and I really dont have the time or money to invest into something that is an ongoing problem.
didnt really smell it, Im just really frustrated with everything right now I need to have a profesional who has patience to work on it take a look, and if its guna cost too damn much im sellin it and getting something else, probably a newer PSD or a dodge.
Still got junk(water/rust/dirt) in the fuel. Check again what you did and see if the fuel in the filter and the governor housing is brown and dirty again. Leave the filter off and put a bowl under the housing to catch the fuel that comes out. Do it for a minute while you crank the engine over and see if the fuel that comes out and drops in your bowl is nice and clean and clear. You will need a new filter, too. Getting closer. It ran good until that nasty, watery, rusty fuel got pumped back into the system. You just need to get rid of the nasty and replace it iwth clean and you should be good to go.
yah I guess I can try that but I still dont know If I got that governor put back on. should i just fill up the tank with new fuel and hope that it dilutes or should I pump it out some how. Dont know how to siphon anything but am willing to learn.
You do know that if the top cover is not replaced properly, and the truck is started, you could end up with a run away engine? It'll run to the govenor, and turning the key will not shut it off.
The next step I was going to suggest would have gotten to the fuel. And would not have involved removing the cover
Do you not remember me saying, "DON"T MESS WITH THE IP, YET?"
All the suggestions I've been trying to make to you are simple, fast, and logical. But if you want to just keep trying on your own, go ahead.

Ok me messing with the IP did some good I guess....All the fuel in there was gunky and nasty so I replaced it with diesel kleen and diesel mixture of 50%. Started her up and ran just fine, for 2 minutes. Going to drain the tanks tomorrow, and start fresh. since there was obviously a lot more water in there than the diesel kleen can get rid of.
