Ok so I changed the injector O-rings, and the return lines, and still not running right. It will start up and will only run at full throttle but its more like its idling like it normally would. when I let off the gas it dies. At full throttle it sputters a lot, but doesnt blow the white smoke like it used to. There is a heavy knocking sound coming from both the engine and the exhaust(no muffler) I don't want to go get all new injectors, and find out thats not the problem and then have to buy an IP if that is what is wrong. I thought it was the water pump bolts in the wrong place but it ran fine for 3 days after i put the water pump on so I don't think that would be it. I just don't know where to turn anymore, and am greatly needing a vehicle. Please write back ASAP thanks!
It will start up and will only run at full throttle........ but its more like its idling like it normally would. when I let off the gas it dies.
Please explain the above a little more........
Just because it ran fine for 3 days, doesn't eliminate the bolts.... Pull the easiest one and check the tip for wear marks..... It may not be the one(s) touching though.
It will only run(at idle speeds) with the gas pedal to the floor. When i let go of the gas it sputters revs up a little then dies. it sputters a little at full throttle but not as much as it did before I changed the return lines and o rings
Does your filter header have a return line coming from the closest o-ring cap? Ther is one on the '87 If you have air in the system you can cut this line and plug both ends. I've done this to mine when I did the O-rings because of similar symptoms. You can keep it like this indefinitely to keep it from siphoning down the lift pump line. Then crank a little bleed the schraeder repeat this till you get a little fuel take your time with your starter good luck
Did you ever take a fuel sample from the Filter header Schrader valve and check it for GASOLINE...... I think I asked this before. Should have stayed with the original post so we had continuity........... next time.
No i did not but i switched to my front tank( the one that was almost empty) and put new diesel as well as diesel kleen(gray bottle) when i as running on the back tank, and took the fuel from the schrader valve onto a clean rag it smelled a little funny...nothing like diesel from the pump.
way smotther than it was before i changed the return lines and o rings, used to smoke a lot now theres none, and no eratic sputter. Still doesnt get up to high rpms like it should, usually when i used to take the muffler off and give it gas it would hurt my ears and could be heard a couple blocks away, now its like its running at 3500 rpms or below I dnt have a tach so couldnt give you exact numbers but thats what I figured. I didnt take all the injectors off and get em tested, just pulled the tees and replaed the o rings. Drained the fuel filter when problem first occured but i think i will replace it tomorrow just for good measures but its gotta be something more.
Hold off on the fuel filter until you determine if there is gasoline in the system.. syphon some from the both tanks....... separately check them......could be you did the second tank too..........??
i dont know how I would get gas in there unless there was gas put in the tanks of the gas station. Did you send me those diagrams? how would I determine that there is gas in the tanks?
I would do a power balance test. In your case you will need two people. At least this way you can pin down a cylinder(s). You will probly be looking for results reverse of normal. In that I mean you will be abel to deterine which cylinders are operating normaly. This test is also free because it can be done at home and requires no special tools. If you do not know what this test is or how it can help I will post it for you. WEAR EYE PROTECTION, THE DIESEL IS UNDER HIGH PRESSURE AND WILL SPRAY IF YOU DON'T PLACE A RAG OVER THE LINE.
Can you be a little more specific? It seems like your jumping all over the place.
1: Does the truck start as it's supposed to? GP's on for 10-15 secs? Starts within 10-15 secs of cranking? Does it smoke when started?
2: After the engine warms, does it accelerate smoothly? If not, does it smoke while trying to accelerate? What color is the smoke?
3: Did you move the Injection Pump? Did you remove the Timing Gear Cover?
4: Have you confirmed that the upper water pump bolts have not contacted the IP timing gear?
5: Where did this thought of Gasoline being introduced come from? Is there Gas in the fuel tanks?
If your engine is not running properly, stop revving the crap out of it. These engines are governed @ 3200 RPM. They will not rev over that. If it's not running properly, and you keep revving it up there, your going to cause more problems. Try accelerating smoothly to about 1/2-3/4 throttle.
