Hi Guys, I have a question about removing the ignition (key) switch, I do not have a key. Is that a problem? I did remove one before In a 72 F100. Went like this Insert key Turn to acc, insert small pin in hole next to key and pull out the insides of ignition ,(key and tumblers) Is that the way you remove one for 66 F100, OR can I remove it without key? Any advice will be a big help. Thanks
Bill W
It the same as you described for the '72. Good news is that since you don't have the key anyways, pound a flat blade screw driver in and turn it counter clockwise. This will break the tumblers but you will get the switch out. You may have to use a set of channel locks to get the right amount of leverage though. Replacement keyed inserts are available for $25 with a new set of keys from most of the site vendors.
Would there be another way to get it out other than pounding a screwdriver in it ?
We ARE talking about my truck, And dont want to damage anything other than the key part, I have orderd a new set of door locks with matching ignition keys 3 peace set. I hope to have the truck running in a few weeks with any luck. Thanks for the help Bill W
You should be able to get a screwdriver in it without damaging anything other than the tumblers. It will not take much poundage to get the sd in the tumbler. The rest of your switch will be okay. I bought my tumbler and keys from Autozone for less than 10 bucks!
Attempted to salvage the switch and used a drill, started out small and progressed to drill the size of the key cylinder but found it just about impossible because you need to drill to the very end of the cylinder in order to get the locking mechanism to release. Suggest plan on replacing switch and cylinder and try removing with least amount of scratches to the dash and other switch components. Not sure about screwdriver, found the drill worked okay.

C3AZ-11582-A .. Ignition Switch Cylinder with Keys (Motorcraft SW-351)
These two parts were used on both cars and trucks in the 1960's and are available today from just about any parts store. You can take the new cylinder to a locksmith and have it recoded to the door lock cylinders so you can retain the one key for all setup.
Rule of thumb~Disconnect the battery cable before messing with the ignition switch, don't ask me why I know that.

I just went through the same thing on my 66-100. I bought the entire lock cylinder set and drilled the ignition cyl out increasing drill size 'till I got to the end of the cylinder and then I stepped down considerably to get the very end of the cylinder out. I thought it was very easy, I just took my time!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
After doing all the damn drilling, I decided to re-do the door lock cylinders. The stinkin key code was on the door lock cylinder!@#$%^%$#!!
Okay, so now I have new door lock cylinders.
