i bought a 99 explor. I always wondered why people who drive explor whip in and out of lanes so fast.. I think I know now...the steering ratio on this truck is way too fast. when driving 70 just a very slight movement on the wheel results in a big swerve....itz almost scarey....i am not expert....but it does not take one to see how a vehicle with a high center of gravity riding on truck tires could lose control and flip with a steering ratio like a indy car.. In my opinion very poor engineering design to the point of being negligent.
There is nothing wrong with his Explorer. I had a 2000 Explorer, and the steering was very quick. My wife complained about it all the time. When I got a 2002 they had changed the steering, and it was not as quick. It was easier to drive for my wife.

Our 97 scared the h*** out of me first cple of time, tires squealing and body lurching. Changed the shocks to HD gas and 6ply tires @42psi and I can now out corner our Crown Royals (PC's). Rock solid ride.
