1. Steering ratio - not sure how/why they arrived at the ratio they did, something akin to a dump truck. There's no need for such a slow ratio with todays power steering, or the somewhat large steering wheel.
2. Throttle pedal response - I'm still not keen, even after six months, on the non-linear throttle response, there's too much sensitivity in the top 1/8th of the pedal. I think it would have been much better with a more linear programming. When driving this truck on bumpy, off-road type conditions, maintaining smooth throttle response is difficult.
I agree totally on both counts wonder if a flash could help the throttle response, the problem is its unpredictable, the other day I was pulling my trailer and I was applying what I thought was a slightly more than average amount of throttle it did what I wanted but right as I was just about to pick my foot up off the throttle the acceleration hit so hard It dang near broke the tires loose with the trailer ON.
the steering is also another gripe, it is way way slow and makes the truck drive like a boat rather than have a nimble feel. my old 06 dodge reacted like a sports car in comparison to this truck when it comes to steering input.
a couple others is the shifter blocks the 4x4 **** you can't read it from the drivers position I fixed that with some orange electrical tape and made some marks on the bottom of the **** that is easily seen.
TPMS
soft rear springs
not enough rear ride height on the f250
puny tires
plain work truck looking rims, they should have been a natural finished aluminum instead of the matte gray coating.
other than that I really like the truck though, just seems like a few simple things that could have been fixed most of it would have been fixed for me if I would have just bought an f350 instead
I would have ordered an auxiliary fuel tank if it was available. I wish Ford would have developed a remote oil filter like the 6.0. I would like to see the DEF tank level as a percentage of full. Exterior outlets for the inverter. Bigger buttons for the cruise control.
Throttle response, traction control, steering wheel seems a lot bigger than my '05, definately needs a much bigger fuel tank-another 10 gallons would make a huge difference.
I do not want to bash this truck at all, I think that it is the best truck that I have ever owned. It is soooo smooth. I hope that it stays reliable.
paver, how is it bashing when you know many Ford marketing and engineering people are trolling quietly for ideas.
Not to mention competitors.
Exactly what I'm hoping for, that this info will make it back to engineering. Perhaps I will even get so lucky as to have a future firmware update which will fix the throttle response, maybe even giving me a menu choice as to the type of throttle response I want.
The things I can do something about, like the headlights, I'm not so worried about, in my case I simply installed HID driving lights - now my high beams are much better.
Steering ratio, probably not much they can do about that through firmware, I don't think it's steer-by-wire, but engineering should hear from us, I've never heard one person say the new slow ratio is an improvement.
I guess it wasn't bashing. I just want everyone to know that I love this truck. With all that said, everything has room for improvement. I think the throttle is the biggest problem. For what it is worth I have several Mack triaxle dump trucks-the 2 newest ones have the same throttle problem as my 6.7. I am convinced that especially with Mack the throttle response is directly tied into the control of emissions. 9 times out of 10 all these emissions controls hurt fuel economy. Our newer Macks get between 1-1.5mpg less than the older models. Hopefully the 6.7 continues with the great results I am seeing so far.
Are there any downsides to doing this? I don't hate the steering, but would like to feel like I'm not steering a school bus.
I have no actual data that says anything is harmed or not. Theoretically, the drive mechanism that actually turns the wheels has to work a little harder due to the increased caster. How much harder? Who knows. I personally believe the difference is slight. Engineering data would be nice.
I agree and placed those thoughts in my 40+ minute survey the other day. The steering needs to be firm (even the column slops around which I posted about soon after buying it which feels like crap quality) and is just way to loose. There needs to be more firmness and a better ratio for sure.
FORD: Take note from Volvo, BMW etc. Steering should be part of the passion.
Can a person assume that any good alignement shop can adjust the caster to improve the steering. This is one of my only complaints about the truck. Otherwise,I love my truck. Thanks
