Sounds about average compared to what others are posting. My 96 SC SB, 5spd, 4.10 gets 16/17 around town, 18/19 hiway empty and 11/12 when towing 7-8Klb (GCWR 15-16Klb). Funny thing is last June I ran 250 mi w/ another buddy hauling our broncos. He had a 5.4L F150 and wanted to go slow (60/65). I ran the same route solo the following July w/ the same load at 75/80 and got the same mileage. I once got 22mpg from Flagstaff to Albuquerque (300mi) with a steady 60mph tailwind.
15 average, but kinda realised yesturday that I'm foot happy so I cant complain at all. I realised how crazy I am when I was cruising down a gravel road, hit a number of bumps, I supose svery bad washboard and some how launched my spare tire out of the box of my truck25 feet in the air, could not see the thing in my rear view mirrior. Then the tire started chasing me after it hit the ground and started doing backflips in the air. It was crazy but funny afterward. Making a secured hold down in the box for the tire today.
iasrap, sounds about right to me. I've changed every filter I have on a regular basis, all fluids were changed, I have lifetime oil/filter change. Oil/filter is changed religiously between 3k - 5k miles. Most of my driving is combined city and highway. I get 16.5 mpg on average. I do my best to keep the rpm's around 2000.

Drive like you have all the time in the world, change your fuel filter, and maintain your oil, and you will get great mileage.
Correct.
I never take the truck above 55mph and accelerate real slow, and I shift at 1,600-2,000rpms depending on how big of a hurry I am in. 1,800 is the prime number for me, so I have found, as a median between lugging and "over-revving".
Even when I am in a huge hurry, such as trying to keep up with one of my friend's duramaxes, I won't take it above 2,500. At 3,000rpms my engine made a horrible noise deep down that reminded me of a broken rod going through the side of the block, so I guess it don't like rpms that high anymore.
