Help

I am trying to put power steering in my 58 F-100 without the use of a kit. I was told it would be easy if I just used a mid 80's Chevy 2WD pickup gear box. Turns out not so much!
Has anyone done this and.. can you tell me why when I start my truck the steering wheel now moves on its own? The more R's you give her the faster the wheel spins!
Any help from anyone will be appreciated!
Jeff

The spool valve in the gear is sticking. This usually means its time to rebuild it.

Thanks. the only thing is I just had the box gone through to have the gears reversed so it would move the pitman arm to accomidate the way its mounted. Could it be anything else... maybe hoses on backwards (hoping for a simpler fix)

Going on old memory..The spool valve sits on the input shaft and moves up or down when you turn the wheel. Anything that would hinder the free movement of the valve (piece of dirt, lint from a rag, burr on the spool or shaft) or it's ability to center (broken, worn or incorrectly installed spool valve springs) will cause what you describe. Gotta tear it apart to find out. Good luck Rich
