Which seal do I need to replace? My 99 f-250 has oil in the wheel, and all under the flat bed where it has been coming out. How much does that thing hold because I may have to drive it a little more before changing it.
Yeah, thats your axle seal. I just replaced mine a couple months ago. I waited on mine for awhile until I noticed the rear brakes had no stopping power because they were coated in grease.
they are pretty easy to change and they are only 13 bucks at www.discountfordpartsaty2k.com. You can run for a while but i would just change them out as soon as you get a chance.
Not hard at all to replace. When I did mine the hardest part was paying $45 for the socket to take the hub nut off. Also a good time to put on an aluminum differential cover and change to synthetic gear oil
Yeah, you need that special socket or it's a PITA and you stand a good chance of not getting the nut correctly torqued.
The seal is mounted on the inside of the hub if I remember correctly.
Yep, the seal is inside. I priced that special socket at my parts house and they wanted close to $50 for it. Luckily, I know a couple guys at a garage that had one. I couldn't see paying that kind of money to use a socket twice.
