I don't see why not. You'll have to look into this some more since you will have to change out the clock spring to get the correct wires up to the steering wheel, then you'll have to figure out how to wire it into the radio. That may or may not mean a new radio too. What year model truck are you trying to do this in?
If it's the same year/vehicle then possibly. If not, I think it is PAC that has steering wheel radio control interfaces, but I don't think they interface with OEM radios.
I've been wondering this also since two of my vehicles have steering wheel controls and the SuperDuty doesn't (yet). You'll for sure need a radio with the second plug on the back, doesn't matter which year. The first plug (top plug) is the standard power/speaker interface that all Ford radios have, the second plug is the steering wheel interface, and the third plug (bottom, if equipped) is the sub-woofer output. The model year of the truck/radio doesn't matter as long as they are the same chassis. In my truck (an '03) I'm running a RDS radio out of a '06 Escape/Mariner that has all three plugs.
The trick will be the wiring in the steering column. There will either be an extra harness needed, or an unused plug from the existing harness. That will require research into steering column part numbers and wiring diagrams.
im trying to put it in an 04 i would love to change out my dash (if possible) to and 05-07 model year, including the radio and also wondering if the auto temp would fit in??
You would need a wrecked truck as a donor to swap dash modules. The substrate and carriers are different so the swap (to do it right) would have to go all the way to the firewall. I had secured a '05 dash to do the swap but lost interest when I found out the scope of work required after talking the project over with some Ford engineers.
Was wondering if i could put a steering wheel with the volume control buttons in my truck that's steering wheel only has the cruise?
After checking the service manual it looks like it can be done if you have the correct steering wheel and if you have the correct radio. The radio needs to have two connectors on it; the top one all radios have and contains 16 pins and is known as connector C290a.
The second connector (needed for steering wheel control as well as speed sensitive volume) is a 20 pin connector known as C290b.
Run a wire from pin 2 of connector C218a (at the base of the steering column) to pin 14 on connector P290b and the steering wheel controls should work.
hmmmm, it sounds like you did your homework on this. i installed a new wood/leather steering wheel with the radio/ac/cruise control on it. problem is; my truck--01 excursion, only came with the cruise control. i tried to wire the cruise up, but it didn't work. i cant find any witing on how to make the new wheel work with the wiring of the oroginal cruise only wheel. any help would be the best and most appreciated. the new wheel is actually from an 02 navigator. it has the same wheel mounting as my X. i got the wheel from ebay brand new for $65.
