I have been using an electric transfer pump for 20+ years (same pump, an old Carter). It has about 10' of 3/8" hose on both the inlet and outlet. The pump is mounted on a flat piece of wood. I also have a long electric line permanently connected that plugs into a power outlet or cigarette lighter. I just coil everything around the pump and throw it up on a shelf. The interesting thing is that when I first start up the pump the seals around the power connections and case leak gas for a moment until the seals swell up. The power connections are tight and I disconnect the unit from the vehicle power connector so no chance of sparks. Only a couple drops leak out tho.

yeah the cigarette lighter is a great idea. most of the time i was always close too and used the battery. but your idea is better and great.

Replacing the tank, if you've got the cash, in my opinion is the way to go. I just installed a plastic replacement tank from BroncoGraveyard, and it was a chore, but totally worth the time and effort.
