bolted right at the exhaust manifold. tried the jumper from the bat. lug to the "s" terminal and still nothing. this is getting frustrating you know. i just finished up my stang, and have 2 other projects waiting for their slow drawn out restification, and my new work truck has turned into another project vehicle. just as long as the wife doesn't find out.
If the starter cranks with cable from + battery post to starter cable but doesn't crank with jumper wire from the + Battery post to S terminal. the problem is the solenoid.
Note: Always do electrical tests with a fully charged battery.
Well if you tried jumping the solenoid, I usually use a screw driver, and it didnt help then the solenoid is bad. Ive never had one go bad but I suppose its possible.
actually no!!!! i haven't touched it in over a month. i have spent money hand over fist on the same part about 5 times now. decided i will have some fun with the stang for a while to some yard work and if the grass grows over the truck to cover it up--all the better.until i get the bug to try it again.
did you replace the positive battery cable? mine always acted up and i would have to get out and mess with it for it to start it might be corroded under the insulation

I'm a short guy-it's mounted on the pass. inner fender--screw driver will hit the fender so i can't do that, used a wire to jump it.(last time) still nothing.i know it has to be the solenoid, but at $10 a pop i have already bought a few to many. so it will sit for a while.

All the cables are new, grounds have been sanded to bare metal, and reattached, positive from bat to solenoid and sole. to starter is new. bat. cable clamps are new.those are some of the things i bought as soon as i brought it home. thats when the problem of not starting began.
Starter motor armatures can get flat spots in them just as any electric motor. A god direct jolt of current to the s/motor can nudge it off of the flat spot and spin where as getting current threw all the electrical connections reduces the current to where it wont nudge it off the flat spot. These flat spots can also be a magnitised spot from putting to much current to one spot without it spinning. Hit it with a hammer when someone else turns the key. hammers rule
m78 the last time i tried, it was doing the same thing. the starter is spinning the engine over. take away all spark and turn your key. that is what i have. the only thing (come to think of it) i haven't replaced was the coil. bought so many parts to replace the old ones. never got aroung to the little thing known as the coil. need to cjeck the spark output this weekend i guess. maybe -just maybe this will be the end of my starting problem.
