I'm trying to find out stuff about my truck. There's nothing listed on the VIN sticker- no DSO codes, no axle codes, no nothing. Just GVW ratings and date of manufacture (01/76). It's a laminated blue sticker. There's no stickers under the hood, either. No vacuum diagram, no emissions calibration code, no sticker on the air cleaner or valve cover. A VIN decoder told me that it's a 1976 F100, manufactured in San Diego.
It's a Texas truck, with very minimal emissions equiptment- PCV & catalytic converter. There looks like there might be a line running down the framrail for an evap canister, but there's nothing under the hood to support it.
1976 F100 Ranger XLT
2wd, appears to be 3.50 factory ratio from speedo gearing, but swapped by PO to 3.00.
300 six, T18 4-speed.
power steering, manual brakes, add-on style Ford-brand AC (separate panel by glove box, no factory radio.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Resources? Places to look? I'd like to find out what the factory emissions calibration and axle configuration is.
I've got a laminated blue sticker on the cab door jam, just below the striker. I'll post a photo of it tonight when I get home. I'm also going to try to find a chassis VIN plate; see if it matches (just for fun!).
Thanks again. I'll be very interested to see what it reads with a tachometer installed, and see what the actual gears are. I don't think it's 3.70, but I could be wrong.
There were assembly plants in SoCal. Trucks were built for years in Long Beach. The factory moved to Pico Rivera in about 1956-57, because the ground under the original Long Beach factory on Henry Ford Avenue was slipping. I don't think trucks were built in Pico Rivera. Truck production moved to Richmond CA, then San Jose which is south of San Francisco. Line from old song.."Do you know the way to San Jose?"
If your truck is CA built, San Jose is the place. VIN code 5th digit is R.
VIN decoders are not from Ford, and are only as good as the research put into the effort.
