just have a couple questions on hydraulic roller cams for th 400 motor, first off, i know you can use a cleveland cam in em, but what lifters do ya use, i think i've only seen one set that crane or comp makes but them damn things are like 500 bucks, is there an alternative to these, also what do you do about pushrods,
I believe all those cams were developed for 351C's. However they work good in a 400. I have a Crane set up. You need the cam, lifters pushrods, adjustable rockers (rollers) and push rod guide plates. It can be expensive and you need to be very carefull of the valve train geometry being correct. That being said I love the characteristics of the cam.
well i have the guideplates and rockers and alll already, do you recall what pushrod legth you used on the ole 400, this is a motor thats goin together for a daily driver, a 72 f-100 short bed, i'm just kinda weighin options right now as i have already bought a hydralic flat cam for it pn 133042 crane, got pretty much everything to put him together except an oil pump and the time, as i am in baghdad for another 6 months, pretty much my inspiration to come home is that ole motor runnin
Comp Cams makes a roller cam conversion kit that you can use. It allows you to use roller lifters from a 5.0 Windsor roller motor in a non-roller motor. It will work on a 351C or 351M/400. Roller lifters for a 5.0 are much cheaper than aftermarket roller lifters.
