NAPA 6637 Mod Question

Installed the NAPA 6637 mod yesterday. Used some PVC and a new clamp and everything went well. However, I can't seem to find any conversation about the air intake temp sensor except to tie it off. Does it not serve a function? Should I try drilling a hole in the intake somewhere and mounting the sensor or will an open air reading from near the 6637 be accurate enough? What do some of you real mechanics think. Thanks for any response.

Nope, just zip tie it up.

The air temp shouldn't change much from 1" outside the filter, where you'll zip tie the sensor, to just inside the filter, where you'd mount it. Much easier to just zip tie.

You know, I recall thinking the same thing quite some time ago and even saw a writeup on a diesel site where it was mentioned that a malfunctioning IAT on a cummins was suspected as responsible for poor fuel economy as the computer was trying to manage fuel injection tables based on parameters, one being the IAT.

Having said that, mine is/has been zip tied and seems OK. I have had a lot better fuel economy than I have had lately though and cannot say if the IAT is used in our trucks for any fuel management. My manual has not led me there but even the DVD does not cover everything the PCM does and how it goes about it. So mine remains ziptied.

Its not that big of a deal to drill a hole and install it. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, I'm just funny about loose ends.

Extend the wiring by about 9 inches and mount it here.
That way the ECU knows exactly the temperature of the air entering the engine.

Since it's (was) installed pre-air filter I didn't see a problem with the zip tie approach
