AIS vs 6637

I am wondering if any one is running the AIS air intake system that Clay sells? I have the 6637 mod (from clay) but am curious as to whether the AIS might be quieter while doing as well cleaning the air.

Yes the AIS will be quieter. It won't flow quite as much as a 6637 but filters exceptionally well.

The AIS does filter very, very well. I cannot compare how it filters against the 6637 because I never ran one. Same with the noise but I do remember reading some posts that the AIS is quieter because it's a closed system. I've mentioned this in other posts that the AIS is more expensive but if you live in a dusty environment, it is money well spent.

Thanks for the info, I suspected as much. Well now I am saving for another mod, the DP will just have to wait, and the on board air and the gauges, and the....well, you know.

With the AIS the filter restriction gauge will go to the red zone quite easily, at first. For some reason when the filter is new it will show some restriction but that seems to go away after resetting the gauge a few times. Just a heads up.

And I see Chris has done the zoodad mod too. Yeah, it's worth it to get better air flow into the filter housing.

I also have the AIS with the optional sleeve on my 2002 F350. I have never had the 6637 but many PSD owners do.

I can tell you the AIS is a closed set up that draws the coldest possible air through the driver side grill area filtered by a large Donaldson air filter that can filter around 60,000 miles or so. I have the optional "Sleeve" which also draws additional cold air through the inner driver side fender. With the MBRP exhaust, my truck runs better with better turbo spool and the fuel milage has slighty improved. I am very happy I choose the AIS a few years back, wished I would have done it sooner.

Very happy with the AIS. Ran the 6637 for a year & got tired of the noise. It will pull my restriction gauge a little (clean filter), so there is a little flow restriction, but I am happy to have what I consider the best filtration you can buy.

The zoodad mod is great. It does draw a lot of air through the grill.

If you have a little fab skills you can box in your 6637 and quiet it down a bit. There are plans on the site for boxes, and I know Chris (F350-6 on here) has done it and commented that it quieted it down some. Just another option to throw out there which will save you $$$ in the long run since the 6637s are about half the price of the AIS filters.

If you pull that 5er in your Avatar, you will most likely prefer the AIS. One RV pulling trip caused me to switch to the AIS from the 6637. I need the fender sleeve now that I have the 38R. My modded stock turbo wouldn't hardly move the minder at all. The 38R sucks it over instantly and sets the light on the dash.

Pulling the 5er is what made me ask the question, the drone is pretty pronounced whenever it's working even a little bit. I have passed the age where I have to make noise, although I do like my muffler delete and 4" tubo back.

Funny, I just pulled the 5er this weekend and ordered a muffler yesterday for my 4" turbo back. I am also old enough to not want to listen to that drone anymore. My wife asked on the way to the campground, "has this thing always been this loud?"

I've run both the 6637 and the AIS.
Both work well.
The 6637, hands down breathes better than the AIS.
My stock engine will pull the filterminder to the first notch on any hill with the AIS.
Pull another hill using the towing tune and it will pull to the second notch.
The AIS is quieter.

Yep, the drone with the 6637 on certain stretches of road drove my crazy. The box around the filter stopped the drone and muffled the other sounds quite a bit.

Of course when you get a DP, those sounds will be amplified, especially if you add a wicked wheel to address surge. The AIS will be much quieter.

What specific sounds are you trying to mute?
