I was installing my car alarm today, and i accidently plugged the headlight swith (it was turned to the on position) into the truck with the battery attached. It blew a fuse, and after there was a vibrating sound that occured about every 10 seconds behind the middle of the dash. After about 10 minutes of the vibrating sound, it smelt like something was burning, the vibrating sound went away, but the instrument lights still dont turn on (ALL OTHER LIGHTS WORK) im assuming i blew a relay but i dont know...any suggestions???
Plugging in the headlamp switch would not cause any of the described problems. I would look carefully at what connections you made with your alarm, as chances are that is the cause. Perhaps you sent ground or power to the wrong circuit in the truck.
I believe the Lighting Control Module is up there in the center of the dash. I dont know if it has any serviceable relays in it. Sure sounds like you fried something in it though. I have to agree with rwilimo. Double check that all your connections were correct. I'm sure a couple of them were made into the vehicles lighting circuits. Check other fuses too, as the instrument lights might be fused on a seperate circuit than the blown fuse you found.
