Another Vibration Question!!

After firing my 289 I built for my 68, I have noticed a vibration that starts at about 2000 rpm and stops at about 3500, It wasnt always there, it seems to be getting worse as the engine breaks in. The motor has a 28 oz. Summit Brand balancer and I ordered a new flywheel for a 70 F-100 w/ a 302 since there was no 289/302 for the F-100 in 68. I am assuming the flywheel should be a 28 ouncer, but cannot be certian since they did not list the weight when I ordered it.(it should be a 28 oz. for a 70 model right?) Is it possible they sent me a 50 oz.? Or does this sound like somethig different? It is not a bone shaking vibration, just enough to be anoying and rattle the change in the ashtray. I also noticed the lovely chrome pulleys I got off ebay are not turning true, the crank and water pump pulleys are both out of round, could this cause a vibration? I really dont want to pull this motor apart again, but I dont want to destroy it either!!

It's possible that you got a 50oz. balancer. I'd look up the part number for it on Summit's website and see if there's any pertinent details that you missed before. If it's okay and really is a 28-ouncer, then you should look to those pulleys. Put the old ones back on and see if the vibration goes away.

And yes, 28oz. is correct for a '70...right up to '81, then they changed to 50oz.

I would suspect the pulleys first & the balancer second. March makes a very nice set of pully's (which you can order direct from them) for about $200.
