Not sure what you mean by "ratchet type", but both of mine have the usual outer notched round lock nut, then a lock washer under that, then the inner notched nut with the dowel pin. I've had 3 Rangers and a BII besides the rigs I have now, and they were all the same. The lock washer is the same OD as the nuts.
My socket is at work right now, or I'd take a picture of it. The lugs are inside of it, but they're flush with the edge of the hood. If it goes on at all, the lugs will seat properly. The only problem I can see is the bigger OD on the end of the socket, if there's not enough room around the nut.

Strange?. Both of mine have 1 nut holding the hub on, and it has a cup shaped washer that covers the 4 notches in the nut. I have the same socket that you have, but it wont engage the notches because of the cup washer. the washer is a 2 peice design, that ratchets as you tighten it, so it won't back off, but definately my spindles only have 1 nut holding the hub on?. I browsed the internet, and can't find a picture of it?

I couldn't find a picture of the ratchet type spindle nut, but I did find the socket (first one on the link below), and if you read the description, the last sentence states it will also fit the Ford ratcheting type lock nuts. That's what both of my 86's have?. I wonder if it's a matter of where they were assembled?
