When you click on links to various merchants on this site and make a purchase, this can result in this site earning a commission. Affiliate programs and affiliations include, but are not limited to, the eBay Partner Network.
What he;s trying to say is that at some point, you entered your username / password in a site that looked like ebay, but wasnt the real thing. (thats how your info was comprimised)
The next time you log on to ebay, click on "Community", then go to the "Discussion Boards" and finally go to the one labeled "Safe Harbor." You can read various threads and learn about the current scams that are making the rounds. It's widespread.
These scammers are pretty slick and can make their websites look just like ebay. A very common ploy is sending emails (appearing to come from ebay) alerting you that for some reason (your credit info needs updated, etc.) your account is or will be suspended unless you respond by clicking on a link in the email.
If you have responded to one of these bogus sites, you might want to take some action to be sure your identity is not being used by someone else and if so limit your liability....contact the credit bureaus to learn what you can do.
had to go on this live chat with an ebay tech gave him my info that I registered with, then he called me on the phone to verify and he gave me a password to get into the acct.
The chat window greeting said this:
"Please note that this chat service is for members that have concerns of possible account theft & unauthorized bidding/selling activity. At this time we are currently experiencing higher volumes than normal and a longer wait time is expected. Please be patient and the next available representative will be assisting you as soon as possible."
Not really all that surprising, considering all I did was buy something and come home the next day to a locked/hacked account.
Since I first responded to this post, I have gotten 8 additional emails from"paypal" "ebay" sent them all to spoof. Seems there is more activity when I bid on an item. And it does help to talk to a "real person" as you did on the chat service. Is that glass half full or half empty?
I didn't actually bid on anything, I used the 'buy it now' feature.
And now that I am back into my account, all those emails I recieved from ebay are actually in my message center on ebay.
It's really weird, it seems the person that was using my account was searching info on an ipod and other personal video players, and from the replys was simply asking questions to the sellers. Aside from that, it doesn't look like he tried to actually buy anything or sell anything or anything else malicious. It's almost like ebay logged him into the wrong account.
