I was just wondering if i could take my top off of my 92'. I have seen earlier modeles with there tops off but never any of the later models. I was also wondering as far as putting the top back on if there is any sealant that i would need to put on.
thanks
jeromie
take it off!! yeah, they come off fine, the only problem is the security torx bit you will need, or just use some pliers. you dont need any sealent or anything when putting it back on, just take the rubber strip off of the top edge so I doesn't get baked in the sun. I would recomend replacing the bolts with real ones, so you dont have to mess with the security torx head.
Technicly it is illegal to take it off if it is 92 or newer, because of the 3rd brake light(mine dont work anyway) and the rear seatbelts. If there are going to be people frequently riding in the back, I would go to a junkyard and grab a set of lap belts, thats what I plan on doing, and just have 2 sets mounted in the back.
Deffinately take it off! Don't let the third brake light stop you. Yes it is illegal and the cops will most likely stop you if they're really bored, but you can improvise. Try adding a light on the spare tire rack like on newer jeeps. You would need to be creative but it shouldn't be too hard. I wouldn't know for sure though since mine is an 89 and I don't have that problem. Try your best to think of something because riding topless is half of the fun of the Bronco.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Jun-02 AT 07:11 PM (EST)]sorry to keep bringing this topic back to life but I cannot find the t-40 tamper proof torx bit anywhere. Auto stores don't carry it. Sears told me it was illegal to sell it.
any thoughts. Agian sorry about bringing this one back but I had to ask.
I bought a complete set at my local auto parts store. I think it was the NAPA store. I also know that Snap on sells them
I find the illegal thing hard to believe. I think it is just another fastener to make the average smoe go out and buy a new tool or have to go back to the dealer to have it serviced. Besides somebody has to work on these things so they have to be avaliable.
The guy at sears said some detective had come through trying to find out if they had sold any the tamper resistant bit. I think a bunch of stuff had gotten stolen that was bolted down with one of those style bolts. I think he was just confused about the illegal part.
