I have a 95 F-150 with the straight six in it but i haven't driven it for a long time. I just started it up today and found that my altenator and water pump are seized up. I hired a local traveling mech to come fix it for me but i was unsure of what the parts pricing for these two pieces would be? He is doing the work for cheap as far as labor goes but i dont want to get screwed in the parts area. Thanks for the help!
i dont see how the waterpump could juse sieze up...alternator...yes. smog pump, yes.
either of those are a simple fix, u could easily do them urself. how do u know both are seized?
Well i know that the alternator is seized because the pulley will not turn at all. There is no serpentine belt on the vehicle so i can just grab hold and try to turn it. Its locked tight. I was told the other pulley that wont move is connected to the water pump. Now im not too sure that it is the water pump, but it is the pulley directly underneath the alternator. This one as well will not turn when i grab a hold and turn it. If it is not the water pump then can someone please update me with what it is. Also, i have been talking to a traveling mech to come fix it but if its an easy job i am always willing to get my hands dirty. Thanks for the help.
i dont remember the exact bolt sizes but nothing more than some standard and metric sockets and wrenches (these trucks are horrible for having mis-matched bolts).
the altnerator comes off with two bolts and removal of the wiring harness and charge wire. the smog pump is a little harder (accessability is tight, better off doing this after the alt is off). but the same thing applies here as well, just two or three bolts the pulley then the retaining bolts (similiar to the alt.)
a prybar is a good idea to help pursuade the parts out. spray everything up with some PB blaster a few hrs before and it should go pretty easy. i think thats it, if not, its not much more involved. thankfully Ford made these trucks easy to work work on.
thanks a bunch, thats gonna save me another hundred in labor charges. My best bet to call my local yard for the parts? Or is there anywhere online i can get some cheaper?
haha, right... should have known that was coming. So anyways, im gonna call my local yard and autoparts dealer and see what i can pull from the muck. Thanks for the help, i might be back with questions during the process. Off to work!
