Blinking overdrive light

Well let me start by saying i changed my plugs yesterday. Put in motorcraft plugs all boots were in excellent shape and what not. So heres the prob. The truck ran fine until it warmed up then had a low RPM hesistate up to like 1500 Rpm's so parked it overnight with Battery unplugged went out this morning fired up no hesistation again until it warmed up and no the overdrive light is blinking! Trans fluid is clean and full???????

Nobody seems to know....

.....why that transmission light flashes. I have one doing that and the best anyone can say is: "Take it to a dealer." Like yeah, take a 12 year old van to a dealer? That'd be like taking my 80 year old Mom to a pediatric specialist.

almost, anyhow.

Need to get the codes read. When the O/D light flashes...it sets a code. Unfortunately...most AutoZone, Checker, etc. cannot read these codes...with the FREE service. They just do not have the proper equipment.

YES...the dealer can read the codes.

With that said...

Might be the SSV sensor in the rear axle.

Good luck...

Well planning on going to transmission shop tomorrow. Didnt really pay too much attention to the speedo but did notice it is shifting somewhat harder than usual. Also went to check the TV cable cause i unhooked it to get to the back plugs but was still on there but had a decent amount of slack in it. Dont really know it thats normal my 88 mustang i know has no slack but that is true cable driven this one seems to be going to a box on the firewall.

GET THE CODES READ! If the OD light is blinking, the PCM has determined there is a fault somewhere. The ONLY way to tell is to get the codes read to figure out what it's complaining about

For the cost of a VSS (speed sensor), you could avoid all that, BUT you have to determine if the speedo is acting weird or the ABS light is on first.

If there are no other symptoms than the flashing OD light, GET THE CODES READ.

I can't repeat that enough.

This isn't an old 3-speed C6 that you can diagnose over the Internet

A friend of mine had that happen just last week. i flashed for a while he kept driving until the TC failed and killed the trans. He had to replace the PCM. His shop thinks when it died it affected the transmission. Ford only has reconditioned pcm's for a 2000 Excursion.

well ended up being 1-2 solenoid. I still have a hesistation on the low rpm's 500- 1500 rpm's and it only does it after the truck is pretty much completely warmed up? im thinking either bad boot or bad cop. the boots all looked fine when i did the plugs recently

Did you look inside the boots at the coil spring in there? Changing the "boot" means changing that coil spring in there too...

When was the MAF cleaned last?

I'd check for a vacuum leak, like the "dreaded PCV plumbing elbow"...

The boots are as little as $3, $6, or even $8 each.

Did you use dialectric grease on the top of the boot AND where the boot fits to the COP?

Not judging you, just trying to work through this

Where is this dreaded elbow?
I think I'd like to check that out also.

On the throttle body... follow the PCV plumbing and you'll find it.

9 times out of 10 a flashing OD light means the trans has gone into 'limp home mode'. And usually the circuit board or tranny computer has gone out. If it's shifting real hard or shifting funny it's gone into a full manual mode. Your dealer can read the code and tell you what up. My F-350 had to have the circuit board/computer replaced. I think it was under $300.
