Well. It kind of just stopped working. Yesturday, I left to get some bolts for my spare and as I was driving to the place it worked fine. After I had bought the screws and was rolling the window down from outside in the back with my key it stutterd a little and went down. I jumped up on the tailgate and bolted the tire in. It began to rain and I was done so I jumped in my truck and started and began to roll up my windows. Well all of a sudden the rear one didn't work. The motor was/is wirring and clicking but the window isn't doing anything This is making me incredibly mad . I took the panel off on the tailgate on the inside but I don't really know what I'm looking for. I see a huge gear and a wire. I plan to have another look tomorrow, does anyone have any ideas? Like I said. All the window'll do is stay still while the motor clicks and makes noises. I dunno if it's off the track or something but it doesn't seem like it.
Help
Thanks
Bryan
You might do a 'search' on this board - this subject gets covered every so often...
You probably have a broken drive gear that meshes with the window regulator lever - a common weak point on the Ford electric window lifts. I got a metal replacement for the plastic gear at an auto parts store.
Be careful when unbolting the motor and gear box from the regulator, as there is some spring tension and the regulator can snap back at your fingers - doing you some harm!
The nylon sliders that ride in the channel on the window can get gunked up and the window will bind up and not move. You might try cleaning and lubing them first.
Good idea with the lube worked well for me. For testing you can lower the gate and lock the latch on the drivers side then using the key can "raise and lower" the window and see what is going on. I would not go to far out with out someone to support the end. The you can just use the handle to unlock the latch before closing the gate.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Jun-02 AT 03:26 AM (EST)]Thats a good idea. I never thought of that. What should I use for lube? I've got WD40 but I don't think that'll quite work as well?
I'm actually currently trying to figureout how to dismantle the tailgate. I'm unscrewing the screws and washers from the black plate that holds on the gears. Is this a wise idea? I've got one more screw to go that I might get out tomorrow. I'll wait and see what you guys say before I do take it out. But what should I use for lube. Also I was trying to figure out how to get the little crossmembers or whatever off so I could get at the gears better. I've been looking through the Bronco graveyard and I notice I can get a new shell for the tailgate. I thought I could rebuild the tailgate since it's rusted through. But anyway, I'm just rambling.
Dustin has a great DIY'er on installing a new TG as well as many pics and hints, such as supporting the window when you roll it up when TG is down.

Thanks for the info on the rebuild of the tailgate and stuff. I got some Silicon lube but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. So I might try doing what the second link says since my motor still works. I'm kind of afraid though cause I'm pretty new to all this. I've figured out how to take off the regulator and everything but after that I dunno if I should get a new regulator and motor or what. The motor is kind of expensive I noticed from the Bronco Graveyard
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Jul-02 AT 07:22 AM (EST)]I think I read some where that a door window motor is the same as the tailgate motor,is this true???
If it is then the door motors are less expensive.
