hi, I have an 89' f250 lariat with power windows. The motor seems to work perfect when its rolling down, but when i try to roll it up all i can hear is a clicking noise and i have to push it up by hand. its been doing this since i bought it, recently i broke that window, and while there was no glass in the window it would move flawlessly. jus wondering what everyone thought it was, the regulator or the motor. its getting hot here and i really want to start using my window, thanks in advance,
Kyle
I did this a while back on my dad's 90 f250. I bought a new power window motor pulled the old one out and found out you can take them apart. I took it apart and found one of the gears was bad. Took the motor back and got a new gear 8 bucks versus 60. I got it at auto zone. Like I said it was probably 8-9 years ago. Same symptoms your motor is good the gears are bad. Call around and see if you can find a gear set or junk yard. You'll need a drill drill bit some new rivets or nuts bolts and washers of the right size I used lock washers just to be safe.
I'd agree that it sounds like stripped gears in the motor. You should be able to test out the regulator easy enough with it out of the truck. If it binds in any way, then there's another issue.
Realstically, though, you can buy both the window motor and regulator for under $100. There are even some companies that offer the two as an assembly. I just did this job on my 91 F250 (also the passenger side), and it was real simple. I went ahead and replaced both pieces since they were so darn cheap. Now the passenger side is faster than the driver side, so I'm half-tempted to replace the driver's side assembly just because .
