ok, i just bought my first sd its a 2003 srwf350 lariet supercab fx4 with a v10 and 4.30 gear ratio. the fx4 i thought was pronounced f by 4 like 4x4, i had a guy working on my house yesterday and he called it fx4 like f xyz 4 just like what it looks like on the truck the f and the x are in red and the 4 is in silver my question is witch way do you say it?? i hope i didnt cofuse anyone. thanx in advance.
I was told by someone at the Ford Dealership that it was a fancier way to put 4X4 on the back of the truck. A step up from the standard XLT 4X4... F (Four) X (By, but used as x xyz) and 4.... FX4...
I believe it started as redford points out. fx4 was the code for the option pkg in the order books and they started puting it on the trucks that had that pkg. Just like a Z71 Chev truck, Z71 is the code for their offroad pkg in the order books.
Yep. FX4 is just another option (above the "standard" 4X4). Like they others have stated, it's just an "upgrade" to Rancho shocks (notice your red boots), a transfer skid plate and the FX4 decal in place of the 4X4 decal.
The 4(four) X(by) 4(four) Off-Road package preceded the Fx4 package. The 4x4 Off-Road package had skid plates and a steering dampener. The Fx4 package was introduced in 2003 and it was the Off-Road package with Rancho branded shocks. It has since evolved into it's own separate model to go along with XL, XLT, etc...
