I am about to order the wood and stips for my new bed. I bet some of you guys know all the sizes, lengths, quantity,etc.. of said fasteners. I have a friend in the fastener biz who says he can take care of me if I supply all the particulars. I checked MAR-K, and even Earls world but neither list the info. Anyone help?
Gracias!
I just ordered the kit, can't remember but I didn't think it was too bad. HOWEVER...the LMC truck catalog (of which you can download a PDF) has a schematic for the bolts, nuts, washers, etc and their position. I bet you can add up from there.
The Ford Body Parts Catalog lists the following for the bed strips on a shortbed;
35 each 5/16" - 18 x 1 3/4" long round head carriage bolt
6 each 5/16" flat washer # 44722-S8
15 each 5/16" flat washer #351405-S8 (no idea why two different part numbers)
30 each 5/16'" lock washer
35 each 5/16" - 18 hex nut

When you buy the wood bed kit from Dennis Carpenter, it comes with all the hardware to re-mount the strips.
Brad- 7 strips with 7 bolts each = 49 bolts. Not counting the 2 large ones all the way forward.I just went out and looked. Thats ok tho, I mainly wanted size and length. Thanx a lot.
The difference is the number of strips. The catalog I have lists 5 strips and with 7 bolts each that would be 35. It is a 1953 catalog and looking at the illustration they show 7 strips! But the parts list has 5 as the quantity?!?!?
You know, I am far from knowledgeable about these trucks, mine being a resto-mod that I have only owned for a year,(altho I do have MANY hours invested now) what with a late-ish model powertrain and all, but, as you will see when you get one, (if you don't now) it is still a source of great joy in my life, and will be in yours. I enjoy accolades at car shows and such, but just driving the thing around town, I have difficulty wiping the S.E. grin off my face at the thumbs ups, horn honks, and just the joy of owning a nicely prepared classic vehicle, as I'm sure these other folks on this site would echo.
oh, forgot; Bill- Number Dummy- A Ford parts question for you sir. My daughters '90 T-Bird has a hole in the top of the gas tank. (don't ask) I bought a nice 89 Cougar as a parts donor for the 'Bird, is the gas tank the same?

No car parts books, sorry. From memory, here's the original part number for 1989 Birds and Cougar gas tanks: E9SZ-9002-A. You'll have to ask a Ford dealer to be sure what tanks from what yrs will work on a 1990 Bird or Cougar, which as you have seen is unique in the design and mounting.. Emissions may play a part in what tank is used.
(the bed wood was purchased for a friends '54 F100 when I was at Carpenters place lusting after all the NOS he had on display. I was in the area for the..horrors...Studebaker Drivers Club National Meet...don't ask!)
