well I did some checking today and the bed situation and I think I'm going to change out the bed and put a flareside bed on because the parts are alot easier to find and I might put 39 Ford teardrop taillights in the fenders don't yet just pitchin ideas around let me know what ya think
For the "orphan" years I personally like the wide beds alot better. You bed looks fairly decent with the exception of the tailights. On the bright side the rear panel of the bed has that nice wide surface that most any tailights could be adapted to. Now-a-days its real popular to sink late model Caddy tailights into a vehicle. I think the 1967-72 Ford truck tailights would look great set into the rear your truck.
On my 49 I used tailights off of a 1946 Chrysler (pics in gallery)
If your bed floor is junk, no problem, I think you can buy panels from a small patch up to the full bed floor. I'm cutting down a late model (2005 GMC bed) to put a bed floor in my 49.
The possiblities are endless, just keep an open mind
Bobby
From what I recall the Bed configurations were the same from '57-'72, so basic bed parts should be readily available, just different tailgates & tail lights.
on the flare side they where the same from 57-72 or something like that i know they where the same for a long time. so one should not be hard to find however the style sides bed where differnt with the differnt body styles so they are a little more unuqie. these trucks looks good either way. some 39 tiallights would be pretty cool though.
I do have the tailgate but it is very rough see via my gallery but I also not for sure if i'm going to reuse it or not still in planning stages might decide to sell or trade for parts if anyone knows of where I can get 58 f100 parts like the emblems for the hood sides I have the chrome that says FORD but need the f100 inserts for them. talk to ya later
I agree with Bobby about keeping the styleside. It ain't too bad. I am sure you can find tail lights somewhere: ebay, flea markets. If your bed floor is bad, I think someone makes wood bed conversions for these metal beds. Mar-K comes to mind. Your bed is the short one. I don;t know if they had a long bed option in '58 but sometimes the long beds don;t look as nice, ya know?
Be careful with thinking its all the same from 57-72 because wheel bases may have changed, and the wheel wells may be shifted slightly to the front or rear. I know thats the case with step-sides, so I'm sure its the same with style sides.
