55 F250 under bed spare tire carrier
The spare tire carrier and spare have always been lose in the bed of my truck and I'd like to put them back under the bed. What I don't have are the threaded fasteners that secure the carrier to the 2 threaded rods that hang under the bed.
To mount the spare it appears:
1. The spare is placed on top of the carrier.
2. 2 threaded rods hanging from the frame slide into the slots on the ends of the carrier.
3. Fasteners on the rods are tightened to pull the carrier up and sandwich the tire between the carrier and the bed.
Anyway, what I'm looking for are the fasteners or illustrations of the fasteners (nuts, wing nuts, washers, Etc?)
Thanks in advance,
-Tony

This is a pic of my trucks rear end with the bumper off so you can see how the big J-hook is attached with a big wing nut. To get the spare out you remove the wingnut and the carrier drops down and the spare slides off. The bolt at the other end stays hooked to the carrier. It is a special bolt., I have a picture of it that I will post when I find it.

Abe that is F100 ONLY as the f250 uses a different style. I dont think I have any f250 styles at the moment

Thanks for the Pics Abe. It looks like your setup is a little different than mine as my truck has 2 threaded rods hanging from the frame instead of the J hook and spare tire bolt. Also, the carrier has slots in the ends rather than holes so it seems that what I'm looking for are nuts and some kind of special "washers" to keep the rods from sliding off the slots. I'll post pictures of the carrier tomorrow. Maybe that will make sense of what I'm looking for.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.
While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg
Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).
When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).
Your pic will be placed in the post.
Hope that helps.

I was able to get all of the original parts for my '54 F100 spare but found that the spare tire that came with my truck had a larger profile than the original spare - meaning the carrier bracket did not hang low enough to secure the spare.
I was able to accomplish using the underbed mount with modified hardware using a 1/2" carriage bolt on the forward side with the spare carrier's slotted hole.
For the rear side / round carrier hole, I bought a 1/2" J-bolt from McMaster Carr and heated the J-hook in a vice with an oxy-acetylene torch and used a box wrench to enlarge the J diameter. A longer J-hook really helps when you are on the ground trying to lift a spare and thread the J-bolt through the spare carrier hole to get the wing nut started.

I just went and looked at the only f250 frame I have here and it still has both of the drop down threaded rods but neither has the correct nut.(they both have double nutted square nuts on them. )
And man is that frame rusty! Pretty soon it will come back as a Kia!
Sorry I couldnt be of more help. I will look around in my boxes of misc parts but I dont think I have anymore.
