i need help. i have a 97 F250 and am looking at replacing it with a 96 bronco. the problem is, i can't really decide what would better suit my needs. my needs being mainly off roading. and i don't know about the reliability of the bronco. any help is appreciated. thanx
I have 324000 on my 85 Bronco and can only say great things about her. You will find that the Bronco will out turn the P-up with no problem making it a better choice in tight Quarters.
I am in an off road club at my school and I own a Bronco myself. If you want the truck for off roading, the bronco will be your best bet. That way you don't high center it in tough spots. ;-)
Broncos have a Great turning radius, shorter wheel base.. are cooler to drive than a Pickup... but.. 1/2 ton rating.. good enough for 35's and some good fun...
The Bronco rocks for going off-road, but the F-250 is going to have some stronger drive train/suspension components. The Bronco is pretty beefy for a half ton, though!
Well, it depends on what type of off-roading you are talking about. If you just want to "off-road", or Play around in the mud, either one will work great, bronco or F-250. If you want to do some real offroading, like Trail blazing, or light crawling, anything of that sort, your best bet is the bronco for the shorter wheel base, lighter weight and better turning radius. Like they said above, with that long wheelbase of the F-250, your chances of high centering greatly increase, it weighs a bit more than the Bronco as well, and also It cannot turn the tight turns that the Bronco can, which in offroading can make the difference between making a turn, or rolling your rig right off the trail. So those are my two cents.
Hope this helps
Daniel
As I own a Bronco and an F250 I can tell you for manuverability(sp) the Bronco will drive better off road due to the 104" wheelbase and the lighter and better balanced chassis(sp). However I would not trade the strength of my 250. I have broken many 9" rearends so I had to put a 10.25 in the bronco. Sometimes the added length of the 133" wheelbase can help on obstacles. as some folks on this site will say my 2cents.
I've owned several Ford p-ups and broncos, from '73 to '88, and I wouldn't trade my bronco for anything. I offroad with a buddy who has an f-250 that's built, and it's great offroad. The advantage I have with my bronco, ('78, 6" lift, 33's, 360cid w/4bbl), is that I can turn around on almost any trail, and he has to back out. The tight turning radius is very important for serious wheelin'.
