The tach in my 01 F250 PSD has become intermittent. It works properly some of the time, not at all some of the time, and jumps up and down some of the time.
Does it get it's signal from the CPS? It has a blue CPS that's about a year old and the truck runs fine, any ideas?
I had the same problem with my 2000 F350. What I did to fix it was to carefully clean all electrrical connections, in particular those on the dash cluster itself. I did all underhood & in cab connections. Problem solved!
I know this is an ancient post but I finally drove the truck long enough that the ECU died. When I put the new ECU in it the tach miraculously resumed normal operation. I had previously pulled the dash, checked all the solder joints & wiring, replaced CPS, etc.
