That's where the different "tunes" come in, I believe, partly for different octanes. I think the "lowest" level tune uses low octane.
If you don't run a high enough octane for the tune timing, you'll get what I would guess sounds like detonation from the fuel igniting too early: loss of power, potential engine damage.
Yeah, I've read where guys are saying they're using the "Tow" setting, and I think that's on 87 Octane. I'm more interested in tuning the transmission rather than the engine. I find the shifts are sloppy (can't think of a better word) and seem to be poorly timed.
Also, Anyone added a Cold air intake ? Worth the money or all show and no go ? I've got a full flowmaster exhaust set up (manifold back).
I have an EDGE and run on level 2 - which tightens up the shifts and definately wakes up the responsivenes of the truck...87 octane.
I tried level 3 - it requires 91 octane - and WOW, but I dont run on it all the time. I'm content with the improvements level 2 make and I dont have to pay the extra fuel cost.
Beside that, the dash mounted pod is worth it to monitor the engine and transmission.
