'66 wiper question

OK, when I got my '66 F100 4x4, the wipers parked at the top of the arc, worked OK, save for the driver's side wrapping around the curve of the window. (parked up, not down)

In clearing snow, my 'better half' pushed the passenger side down to the bottom of the window and now it does not work at all (DS still works as before).

Guess I gotta fix it now, huh? I know from other posts that I can get to the motor thru the dash cluster, what I need to know is can the linkage be repaired to fix the parking issue, or do I have to drop serious $$$ to buy a new motor?

Thanks for ANY help here,
Al

Welcome to FTE there Al; Question: Do you know if the actuator arm has pop off on the passenger side; cause by the downward force from your better half do you? Look under the dash center of radio area and follow the arm to each wiper bushing. I believe its either that or you stripped the inner well of either the wiper arm or the bushing wiper post. Bushing is not the proper word. Hopefully others will chime in.

If it comes down to needing parts you can always upgrade. The link gives you instructions on how to install 2-speed wipers from a donor truck. Customcab is right about checking the linkages.

C3SZ-17531-A Wiper Arm Clip

This U shaped sheetmetal clip (2) hold the arms to the motor, and may have slipped off or snapped. The bushings in the wiper arms were not available by themselves, but I've used transmission selector lever bushings before from the 50's cars trimmed to fit, and they will work.

Al, Welcome to the 61-66 forum, the nations #1 forum for tech support.

IMO, I think you have two separate issues on the same system. First on the passenger side arm. You will have to diagnose if it is stripped, slipped or broken, before we can help with the repair.

Secondly the parking has to do with the motor and the arm on the end of the shaft. I run a 76 two speed, and a delay switch on my truck. If I can get my recall working,....I had some issues to address when I put the motor in my 66. I believe that I had to use the 66 arm on the shaft, because the 76 are wouldn't park with the blades down. That makes me suspect that the motor has been replaced, and the job wasn't properly finished.

I do recall that with the switch connected the motor will park in the same place every time. First thing you might look at is to see if you can flip that arm. There is a nut on the end of the shaft and the arm slips off easily.

Provide a little more info and I think we can get you going.

John
