I was on my way over the mountains last weekend in the rain, and my wipers stopped working. Luckily I made it home ok, but now I really need to figure out what's wrong so that I can fix it (I live in Oregon, so having windshield wipers is a necessity).
Intermittent wipers never worked since I've had the truck, but low and high worked fine. When I turned them on intermittent, they would just work on low.
I hear a noise from the wiper motor when it's on, higher pitched when on high, and can feel movement in the motor when I place my hand on it.
Would this indicate a problem with the motor, or with the control box above the parking brake? I always put my foot on the lever when taking the brake off, so that it doesn't slam up, but who knows whether the previous owners always did this.
Any ideas? I need to fix this soon so that I can still drive in the rain and snow.
Thanks... I came across that the other day but can't make much sense of it. Any ideas whether it might be the motor or the intermittent control box? I haven't read anything about whether the motor will still make a noise if it goes out, or if the noise will occur with bad grounding, or a problem with the intermittent control box.
If the motor is making a noise, I would suspect it's bad. Poke the red wire and the white wire going to the motor with a testlight, if both have power with the switch in low, then the motor is probably bad.
Till you get it fixed go buy some Rainex. It's amazing stuff and will help get you through without wipers till you get it fixed.
