I am sure this subject may have been discussed before but. My 66 CC has 2 sspeed wipers and when I bought it they worked ok. Since the truck has been "under construction" for some time, the wipers haven't been used. I moved it out of the garage today and into the beautiful Seattle sunshine, othere wise know as rain, and discovered that the wipers wouldn't park and operated erratically. As I recall, the park operation is in the motor and not the switch. With all of these truck out there, I am assuming that somebody else has gone throught this, as such would appreciate any comments.
The wiper park is controlled from inside the wiper motor. The single speed motor has 3 wires and the two speed motor has 4 wires. To test the motor for park, position the wipers in a "non-parked" position, disconnect the motor from the wiper switch and connect a jumper wire (two-speed motors) from the metal housing of the motor to a known good ground. Connect a jumper wire in the end of the connector from the white wire to the black wire. Connect another wire from a battery source to the red wire and the wipers should park. If it parks then the problem is in the switch or the wiring to the motor. If it does not park and you are sure your test setup is correct, you can adjust the park switch inside the motor according to the shop manual as described below.
1. Remove the motor thru bolts and remove the motor cup and armature.
2. Rotate the output shaft until the park switch lower contacts are firmly closed.
3. Rotate the adjusting screw clockwise until the park switch lower contacts just open.
4. Rotate the adjusting screw counterclockwise one full turn.
5. Check the bridge to ensure that the legs are contacting the brush card when the lower contacts are closed.
6. Install the armature, motor cup and thru bolts.
If it is the switch, I HIGHLY recommend the upgrade to intermittent wipers. It is the single easiest and non-intrusive upgrade for the money. About $25 and 25 minutes.
Sorry if this post is not ok but have a similar problem with 95 windstar. Recently my multispeed variable wipers can only run in fast mode no slower or intermediate. Appreciate advice. Also how to do new posts.
Thanks for all the information. Steve, I printed the diagrams from your gallery and will try the test you described. CAMPER, thanks for the offer of a switch, it is also nice to know of somebody else in the Seattle area. If I need one I will look you up.
I believe from Steve's description,m I should be able to hook up intermitent wipers without changing the motor. As such, that may be my next project. I will let you both know the outcome.
Thanks again.
My 66 did the samething after putting on new cab, just had to go back a clean the groud wire where it screwed to the cab, I'm also in the Northwest, so these problems happen, I think it has something to do with the liquid sunshine.
Well guys I took the wiper motor off today and fixed it. Iam not sure just what I did, except maybe fixed some contacts that appeared to be fouled up. But it works. I do have two speed wipers but have on three wires going to the motor. As such, I am not sure if I could go to intermitent wipers without changing the motor. In any case, thanks for the advice.
