ok my driving instructor told me this one.
He bought a 2000 ambulance decomisioned with a 460.
Now here is his theory:
-a ambulance used a carberator still, even in this 2000, I guess more reliable because of less parts and stuff like that.
- a ambulance must have a drivetrain rebuild at 100 000 kms. and the motor would have to be rebuilt right, and with some performance upgrades raher then a regular 460.
- a ambulance however is decominishend at 130 000 kms.
So this is why he got a ambulance 460 for his 66 Galaxy. He likes the carb. and he figures a fresh rebuild with performance. Has anyone heard of a 460 with a carberator that new? This was news to me.
Sounds like a tall tale to me. Also Im not so sure they upgraded the performance on those motors for the ambulance. If anything maybe they had a "interceptor" type stock package.
Also Efi is alot more reliable then most people think. Id almost say that in 2000, an efi system would be alot more reliable then a carb job.
The theory if they were really carb. is that less parts, less parts to break. I can't see how they think a computer is more likely to flood a motor then some EMT flooding it. but this guy said he has one for his Galaxy.
I didn't think so but I've known him for 3 days now. He doesn't like 352's so me and him rubbed feathers on Thursday. He said his 2 barrell 351W has more power then a 2 barrell 352, it was a interesting drive after that.
Interesting to have a carb on a 2000 ambulance. I wonder if it had a special intake or else it used pre 87 heads. Ford changed the heads when it put fuel injection on the 460 so the earlier intakes no long fit.
I find it hard to believe that a 2000 ambulance would have a 460 with a carb. I would think a 7.2l diesel or the 6.8v10 would have been a much better choice! Didn't ford quite making the 460 before the 2000 model year?
I thought ford quit making the 460 in about 97 or so, good point skidooman, I didnt even think about that. And as far as his 351 small block having more power, unlikely, unless its done up.
