Some Q's for those familiar w E450 7.3

Hey fellas, ive had my 01' F250 7.3 for a few months now and thanks to this forum i have learned alot about my first diesel.

One of my best friends just purchased an 01' E450 Ambulance w the 7.3, its just over 100,000 miles. Now we are both aware that an ambulance has likely been run hard, but they are also well maintained.

He owns an HVAC business and this is going to be his new service truck to replace his worn out chevy 3500 express w a utility service truck box/bed.

His company is called Air Doctor so an ambulance is kinda cool and fitting for his business image.

Anyway, on to the brain picking. I was wondering if many of the mods we do to our trucks can and will apply to the E450. Hes all about removing the muffler. I figured hutch mod as well. But what else could be done? Im assuming things like intake, air filters and such are alot different.

Any suggestions for mods we could do to improve performance and increase longevity would be appreciated. Hes been in business for 15 yrs and pretty much plans for this to be the last truck he buys. He is aware that hp oil pump, injectors, and transmission may be in his future. But the e450 paired w 7.3 is a far more durable and reliable rig than the chevy 3500 paired w what is now his second 350. That Engine is just too weak for that big truck.

With just over 100K miles, major repairs like injectors and transmission should be quite a ways off. The HPOP rarely fails at this age... and certainly not at those miles.

Mods? How about the OBDII mod? This is where you get an OBDII adaptor and OBDII software for a laptop or app for a portable device. With the right software/app, you can test the truck, monitor all the sensors, and log sensor data.

The best "mods" you can do from the beginning, is to get the truck to 100%. Leaky exhaust? Fix that. Strange noises? Shut them up. Leaks? Stop those. Once the truck sounds and feels right, and the OBDII data indicates all is well - you can look at performance mods.

The 7.3L in the E450 will be the same as the one in my F250 - with exception of the parts you listed.

2002 e450 7.3 carb compliant engine

Good morning! I was hoping to find if this engine would be a big problem to put into a 2002 f350? Would it possibly be just external part swapping? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Scott

Its my understanding that the major difference is the turbo. I believe it will go just fine into an F series but you may need to swap the pedestal and turbo. Others here can clarify or verify thay further.
