Those out there that have the dieselsite coolant filtering system, do u like it? do u think it does a good job? did u have any problems installing it? how long did it take for the first filter to clog up? how much do the replacement filters cost? what brand, wix, purolator, fram,? i ordered one of these a few weeks ago, will be installing it this weekend on my 2006 ps, was wanting to know the likes and dislikes of this system before i install it, thanks for any info you have on this subject.
Well mine isn't on the 6.0 (I have a 7.3) so ease of install may not be the same but had no problem with getting it installed. I like having it, the first filter plugged at about 4000 miles, second filter is still on it at around the same mileage so I think it must be doing something right if it's pulling that much crude out of the cooling system that was floating around. I bought my filter at napa, don't remember the cost but not all that high really, I use the napa gold filters (made by wix) for most stuff.
Very easy install. The first filter lasted a few thousand miles and the next one I changed after about 5000. I think I have about 10,000 on the third one and it still gets hot which means coolant is still flowing through it.
I've got the Dieselsite Coolant Filter system on mine. Easy install with the exception of the T-connection behind the oil fill pipe, that one was challenging.
It uses Baldwin B5134 filters. I changed the first one out at 1,000 miles and cut it open. Lots of sand and a fine toothpaste like substance. Changed the second filter last August after 5,000 miles and it's due again. The second filter had some sand inside and a very slight coating of the toothpaste stuff.
I have seen some guys use the NAPA kit shown here http://www.dieselwarden.net/ford/coolfilter1.html its pretty simple and works well i put one on my 04 6.0 amd just for giggles i also put one on my 06 f-150 witht he 5.4 the 06 had more junk in the cooling system than the 6.0 did. the f-150 plugged its first filter in 200 miles then again at 1,000.
I have the dieselsite filter as well southbound and it was very easy to install. Nothing about the install is really hard. I tend to take my time and double and triple check everything as I'm doing it, so I know not to screw up. I also put some extra tubing split down the middle right where the return line goes near the intercooler hose. I used plastic zip ties to hold it on there. Not that the intercooler hose gets really hot but the rubbing over time, didnt' want there to be coolant loss someday.
I have about 5k miles on my first filter, ip lan on cutting it apart and when I change it. Maybe even this weekend. I bought 3 extra filters from dieselsite when i got my kit. i would recommend them and their filters.
easy mod imo.
My 1st filter plugged up at about 300 miles and the second at about 2000 miles. I have not had a plug up since and am on filter no. 5 now. I use the Baldwin filters that I ordered with the kit. I have 3 left. Not to say that I wouldn't try a Napa filter when these run out. Napa warehouse about 5 miles from the house. The last filter I changed had black stone type particles in it along with a little of the pasty stuff. Not alot but enough to make me glad that I was still running a filter. I think that the sand casting of the block probably leaches something for it's entire life.
ok , thanks for all the replies and input on this subject, guessi will start my install today, and find some extra filters at the local part store...........are these filter made for oil filtration or are they specially made for water filtration?
I am getting one of these. But, I am going to stick with the Baldwin Filters. They make some really good filters. Cut them open some time. I use Baldwin on my Boat.

Coolant filters are different than oil filters.
By the way, the pictures of the install and what the filter takes out that appear on the dieselsite.com website are mine. I was so impressed on how well it worked and figured a picture is worth a 1,000 words.
I did not add mine until 50,000 miles or so... and can't figure why I waited so long!!!
I just buy the Baldwin filters that Dieselsite sells as that model number is not available at any of my local stores (others are not that one). No idea if other brand filters work, but I just buy 3 - 4 of them and that got me through the first year. After running it for 10,000 miles there is no more crud and my curent filter has been on for 15,000 - 20,000 miles. I will switch out this spring just becuase... not becuase I have too.
Buy it... you will like it!!!
p.s. - I sure hope mentioning the deiselsite.com site is not a violation of promoting other sites and retailers who are not spnsors here and now part of FTE regulations????
I ordered the filter from DIESELSITE yesterday, after reading the posts. Should recieve the set-up early next week, and if it isn't too cold I'll do the install. Have to work outside; the truck won't fit in the garage. sounds like this is a mod well worth doing.
I ordered mine from dieselsite a couple weeks ago along with a couple extra filters and a fumoto valve. Haven't had a chance to install any of it yet though. How long do you guys think it takes? I will probably take it to my dealer to get it done, and don't feel like getting hosed on labor cost. I'm sure it's easy enough for me to do myself, but I have limited tools, and no garage to do it in here. Plus I figured I could have them wash it for free, and get the latest injector flash done all at the same time. And it seems like they don't hassle me about any mods as long as I have them install it.
It is an hour max and is VERY straight forward. It is an easy DIY job. You mount a braket to hold the filter, all parts included and cut 2 hoses to insert the "T" fitting for the coolant bypass.
No way should you pay anyone to do this mod! See my gallery for pics of the install.
Easy Install mine took about an hour, first filter clogged with slime about 4-5 hundred miles. Second filter is still doing it's job only about 500 miles on it so far. Just order extras when you get the kit, That way you know you have the right stuff.
