Thought I would post this real quick just as an FYI-
Got a call from an old WVO customer today asking if I would come take a look at his 96 7.3 van. Kind of neat, he got the system from me when I lived in Everett, WA over a year ago. I had since moved to Portland, OR, and he just moved to Portland, From New Orleans, after leaving Washington. Anyhow, Problem was it kept dying. They(he and his dad) found that the 30A Fuse "U" the PCM fuse(and several other circuits) kept blowing. First time they replaced it, and the Van started and drove for several miles, next time, it just kept blowing the fuse. Instantly. So with the help of the trusty HELM manual, I started eliminating circuits one by one, and discovered a shorted Fuel bowl heater to be the culprit. The wire had come free of it's brazed mounts and was grounding out on the side of the bowl. So we opted to unplug the heater from the side of the bowl, and all was good after that.
That is a common problem with these trucks. Fuse #22. I don't think the wire actually shorts out on the side of the bowl. I think it comes in contact with the heater element and causes a large surge in electrical current which exceeds the amperage rating of the fuse and causes it to blow. I've seen several of them with the wire unsoldered and it is a stiff wire that is always still in position.
Good find, though if you've never been here before and you found that on your own.
Didn't realize that was such a common problem on these trucks. Is that on all 7.3's, or just the 94-97? I figured something was wrong when the one side of the fuse was a direct short to ground. Like .2ohms. Wasn't sure how common this was, but thought it good to share for the common knowledge all the same.....

Great Job.
I thank you for providing a problem and then a Solution.
There are just so many dead end treads with people asking for help and then not following up on what have solved the issue.
# 4 Espessially in the winter. Why I cannot start my truck when cold.
