I should say based on a 20+ year old design, they put HEUI on a proven, reliable power plant.
The 7.3L is based on the T444E International engine...which was brand new at the time. The older 6.9L and 7.3L (bored 6.9L) IDI engines were based off of heavy duty gasoline engines, and came with a completely different block design than that of the 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel. The fastest Ford diesel is a 2001 (I believe) 7.3L in a reg. cab long box white truck that runs a 10.9 in the quarter the last I heard. The 6.0L has the HEUI system as well.
Comparably for the average guy, the 6.0L will make more power with the same mods than a 7.3L will for the same amount of money. It seems that more money ahs to be spent on the engine itself though when a reliable power plant is wanted with the 6.0L.
I like both engine's...but if I had to chose, I think I would stay with the 7.3L.
Luke, nope, don't hate them, just tired of hearing how much more superior to the 6.0 they are.
Now on to the original post, If you think that a compairable equipped 6.0 (larger injectors, better fuel system, SCT tuner, exhaust) will lose to a 7.3, well then, I think your just an idiot, plain and simple, thats not hate, it is just a fact.
Pssh, thats if they run, the turbo spools with all that rust on the vanes, wether the injectors fire, need I say more. lol, 7.3's are far more superior then 6.slows brother
What a bunch of fuggin 7.3 haters in here. Face it, your 6.slows have to many problems to be reliable enough to withstand high horsepower levels. They barely hold the stock horsepower that ford and IH set them up with. I will admit it takes less money to make a 6.slow a power plant but it is proven they wont hold up. They're fords biggest mistake. Ask any ford engineer or parts department guy and they will tell you flat out that the 6.0 is a box full of issues. irregardless, the money you put into a 7.3 to make it a powerhouse you easily put into a 6.slow in maintenance and faulty part replacement issues.
To bash the dude who started this thread is wrong, unacceptable in my book, just my $.02 worth. Enjoy the pot of FTE 7.3 vs 6.slow stew. Im out this biotch!
powerstroked162: You are obviously a 6.0 hater!!!!! Your statements make no sense at all. You can flame on the 6.0 all you want and others will flame on the 7.3 as you have noticed. The fact is that the 7.3 is dead get over it. It would not meet the emission standards that were required back in 03 and even the 6.0 would not meet the 07 standards, the 6.4 will not meet the 2010 standards yet but they will by then. So drive your 7.3 until the doors fall off (or until you have to replace the tranny once or twice) because they are a great engine but quit diss'n the 6.0 because they are also a great engine. I have had two of them and yes in the beginning some had problems but so did the 7.3 if you would care to remember. There is always a learning period with any new engine and given time they eventually get ironed out.
My 2006 6.0 is an unbelievable and I fully expect to run it until the doors fall of of it...........
Haven't had any problems with my 6.0 so far. I love it. I don't hate the 7.3L either. Never had one. Didn't have the opportunity. First diesel is this 2006 6.0L and I've been slowly tuning it up. She runs in the low 12's currently and I'm SO looking forward to the arrival of an Elite Stage III Turbo kit. Should really make her come alive!! I am aware that I may blow it up, but same mods on a 7.3 could blow it up as well, right? I was at least smart enough to take a deal I was offered and I have a 2004 6.0L complete with tranny and transfer case just in case. lol
