I built a trap out of ABS pipe, used some 3M scuff pads inside and put a clean out plug and a drain at the bottom so I can both drain the accummulated oil and change the pads. I haven't installed it yet and I'm still not sure if I am going to vent to atmosphere or still vent to the crank case. I don't want oil on my boat, so I'm not sure I want to vent out the back.

cvc mod

HI
With the CVC mod can you just run the hose back and let it drain or do you need some type of pressure cansiter with a relief valve? Rad1026 can you give me a little more detail on the canister you made. I assume it needs to be vented!
Thanks

Mine hangs straight down and stops at the bottom of the engine compartment, the exact same way International vents their T444E in the medium duty trucks.

Ok, mine is vented and the hose happens to be about 3 inchs away from the front driveshaft, and i once in awhile notice a drip or two on the driveshaft, it never makes it to the ground so i know its not dripping much.

I built my own liqui-trap last weekend out of PVC pipe fittings, mounted it near the rear of the cab inside the frame rail, and continued the vent hose to behind the rear tire. I used some very coarse scrubbing pad material for an entrainment capture device to keep liquid (either condensation, oil, etc.) from escaping through the vent tube. I'll try to post some pictures of my install later this weekend. One week with the install, over 300 miles, and not a drip anywhere in sight.

I made my catch with a threaded clean out cap at the bottom, like the ones you see in your front yard so rotor rooter can clean out your pipes. Then at the bottom of the threaded clean out I put a petcock so I can drain it before I remove the clean out cap. I wanted to be able to remove the 3M scrubber pads I put in there. I used some Unistrut and a 3" strap and mounted that to the frame rail right under the drivers door. Lined up with some existing holes. I went ahead and routed the exit back in to the stock intake. Seems to work fine. I inspected my air intake tube this weekend and its all clean. I did get some dripping though from the threaded clean out cap, so I removed it and put some gas rated tape around it. I'll see how that works. When I did that I drained probably about a 1/2 cup of oil out after 2,000 miles. I'm not sure if that is good or bad, the good part is that oil didn't go into my turbo and intercooler. Wish I had some pics for ya, but I just broke my digital this weekend. Oops!

cvc mod

Thanks Guys
Makes more sense to me now!
With the cvc mod do you plug the existing hole thats in the intake hose or do you remove that connector piece completely?
What size hose did you use to run the cvc mod 1/2,3/8, ?
Hey 250 where did you find the air filter pre screen?
Thanks
Again
Nek

Either plug it or replace it with something like a short piece of 4" exhaust pipe.

3/4" inside diameter hose - clear vinyl hose from Home Depot or the like works well.

Like Ryan said, the clear 3/4" vinyl hose works well. A lot of folks, and most mod instructions, recommend using Gates heater hose. However, as long as you're not running the vinyl right beside a high heat source (like your exhaust pipes or engine block), you should have no toruble with the vinyl at all. The benefit of it is that you can see through the hose to check/verify potential blockage problems, which some people have experienced in extremely cold climates. This vinyl hose, though, will darken a bit frmo the oily residue over time.

WELCOME to FTE, Nek!

Regarding the prefilter cover, after being inspired by Springer Pop's "Pop Cover Mod", I designed the graphics and made it myself. I have the "how to" on my version of this cover mod in my gallery, complete with the graphics instructions and close up on the graphics I used. To get to my gallery (or anyone else's), click on their user ID in the block above one of their posts and select the "View Gallery" option.
