I've been watching prices on the bumpside pickups the last few years, they seem to be making a slow but steady rise. It would seem the collectors are finally beginning to realize just how nice these trucks are and the amount of interest in them.
A couple very nice bumpsides, one a 67 and one a 71 shortbox both mildy customized, lowered, nice wheel and tire combos and good engines sold in January through "Deals on Wheels" trader mag. One for $8750 and the shortbox brought $11,500. EBay seems to be all over the board on them, from $500 to $15,000.
Buildable project trucks haven't seemed to follow the increase, many nice project candidates around here starting at $200, and parts trucks from (my favorite) "come and get it" up to about $300.
Just wondering what you guys had noticed, and what they were doing in your area.... Maybe it's time to start ratholing some nice project trucks for future resale?????
I helped my brother look for a decent bumpside last fall. We searched all over including craigslist, ebay and newspapers. We were looking for an f250 4X4 with a manual transmission and was in decent shape, not a show winner at all, but a good truck to haul hay and other farm chores. We could not find any that were not rust buckets, running on only half the engine, or other major problems for under 4k. He ended up buying a '76. You can see his pickup beside my '70 in my gallery. If I did not have a project truck now, I would like to pick up a 67-70 f100 or f250 2wd, but my driveway, budget and wife's patience are not big enough for another pickup.

Gotta agree with ya there, Dave! And when they do need some money put into them you can usually put it off till payday whereas the little woman wants into your wallet "Right now!" whether there's anything in there or not...
I too have been noticing the steady increase in value as of late, even in this area. If it's clean and driveable it's almost guaranteed to bring 2K minimum. Makes me really glad I scored my '68 CS for 300 bucks, I could turn it over for almost 10 times that right now if I wanted to...(which I don't!)

I've got two dentsides and a two bumpsides, along with the F-450 Toter. Think I'll just keep buying them. Got one of the dentsides, a very nice extended cab for $150 this winter from a guy who was a bit light on Christmas present money... His loss my gain. The '71 that I'm finishing now was originally bought for $50.00....
We have a couple good auctions around here in the summer, it will be interesting to see if the prices on the bumpsides are up again this year.... Hopefully I will get my new shop put up this summer, and then the old shop can be used to store a few more. It sure would be nice to be on the right side of a price swing for a change!!!!!

I'm running into this problem now. I'm looking to buy my first Bumpside (my '83 Beast just passed away this fall) and I'm also looking for an F250 4x4 with a stick. Can't find them! And when I do, the prices have been climbing. Somewhat depressing considering my expectations of having to do some overhauling after I get her home.
Well look at the age of vehicle your looking at, not a 3 year old chebbie here.
By now one of two things, one is beat to death with rust holes and many owners or two, a truck that someone has put $10K plus into it not counting labor for a better than new truck.
For $10K plus see what that will buy you in a new plastic soccer mom truck.
Hell $10K wouldn't cover a custom performance FE motor and tranny not alone driveline and paint.
On my '71 I've spent a bit over $4500 in parts, plus a bunch of hours of labor doing all the little mods.... It will be going up for sale, but not cheap. I'm sort of hoping no one will meet my price, but the money from it would put my Ranchero on all four and take a big chunk out of the $$$$$ needed for the engine and drive train.
$10K won't buy much at the car lot anymore.... I much prefer putting the money in a classy old car or truck then sending FoMoCo Credit a check every month!!!
I doubt if our old bumpsides will ever equal the Shelby's, Cobra's, or Mustangs in resale value, but I wouldn't be surprise to see some of the very nicely done bumpsides bring in the $20's this summer..... But maybe I'm just being too optimistic????
