I'm going to be working on a mount to install either one or a pair on my 2004 in the next week or two. I wanted to know if anyone else with a 2wd has done this mod. Nobody I've found offers a kit for the stock 2wd Ex's or F250's. Fabtech has a kit for their lift kit but not stock.
Potholes and RXR tracks are beating up my draglink (replaced once under warranty ) and the rest of my steering. On good bumps the wheel will rotate from 12 o clock to about 1:30.
If you got pics post them. If it's a sucess I'll post it up.
Here's a pic of the 2WD steering stabilizer. I believe it is from the F350. It is definantly a Ford part. I cannot remember where I got the pic, though.
Thanks Monsta that gives me a couple more ideas. I haven't read where these trucks came with factory ones. Maybe I'll go to the local dealer and have them look it up. From the pic it looks to be an older 7.3l model
I made my brackets this weekend and got the stabilizers mounted up. I had to mount mine behind the draglink. I went with a dual cylinder setup, yea I know it's probably overkill but we got crappy roads here and nasty train crossings.
After the installation my wife noted that the steering was a lot quieter going over bumps now and felt way more solid. I feel Ford should have put stabilizers on these trucks from the factory. With the weight, tire size, and how these are built it sure is a good upgrade. I'm very pleased.
YOU made those brackets? WOW! How much to make another set? I think I'd go single only to keep it simple. How's the duals feel? Does it make the steering any more vague?
Yup fabbed them up on Saturday. Took longer than I wanted cuz a fubar'd the first one and had to re-do. I went with duals just to make sure I had enough stabilizer. My wife calls me captain overkill anyway. The steering is great now I had to have a draglink replaced on the truck under warranty at 33k miles due to the pitman end being beaten to death. I wanted to be proactive on it this time. A single would probably work also. Anything is better than nothing.
I'll tell ya this after it was done. My wife drove it to the movies and said .... " The steering is quieter when going down rough roads." On ours if you drove down an unsmooth street with a rough surface you'd get a constant low thump'n coming from your feet ( the steering box ). I knew what it was. So that made me feel good that it helped releive stress on the box.
