what do you guys have and how do you like it...i'm interested in a cover that either flips up with gas struts or folds up....i've only ever had snap covers and they are a pain in the **** so i want something more convenient....
what do you guys reccomend and how do you like it?
I have an Extang Fulltilt. It combines the best of a hardcover, with the best of a softcover. It can be folded like a soft cover, so you have the flexibility..... and you can tilt it up, and remove in 5 seconds like a hard cover. It is truly the best tonneau I have ever owned. There are some photos of it in my gallery.
I have a Snug Lid f2 which I really like. http://www.snugtop.com/products/snuglid-f2.php It has a built in light and is carpeted underneath to match my Bed Rug. Comes off relatively easy when needed with thumb screws.
I have an '05 s-crew with an A.R.E. hard cover. It's painted to match the factory red. It looks great, is water-tight, and lockable. It's like having a super-sized sedan with the largest trunk ever (lots of traveling with the wife and kids).
Removal/replacement is four allen screws and two people.
I had a Lund Genesis hinged cover on my last truck. It worked very well. Easy to remove when you need to. But the only thing I didn't like was the distortion the latches caused on the plastic bed rails.
I have my third cover on this truck, I had the Extang FullTilt first (worked great but did not like how high it sat on the bed rails). Next was the Extang Tuff Tonneau (sat a little lower than the FullTilt but was fixed mounted). Now I have the BakFlip, which is the last cover I think I will buy. It it a hard cover that folds up, and sits flush with the insides of the bed rails. It also doubles as a headache rack when hauling a full bed load. $600 is a bit pricey, but it offered everything I wanted.
I have a Downey Lift Top Design Tonneau cover on a 2005 S-Crew. It is a soft cover tonneau that snaps on to an aluminum framework. The framework is clamped on in the front and the back 3/4 hinges using 2 gas struts (one on either side). There is a latch at the back that controls locking bars that slip under the edge of the bedrails (including the bedliner). See it at www.DowneyProducts.com.
Since the back of the cover is only held down by the metal bars, some moisture does get in the bed, but, suprisingly, hardly any. I have more problems with the cover freeezing down. With a couple of taps here and there, it usually opens up. While the cover does have snaps, I find that I never use them for the reasons stated above. The cover fits over the bed extender and there is no contact between the two.
i have a swiss hard top, its painted to match the body color, keeps everything dry,i can have it off in about 10 minutes if i need to haul anything to big for the topper,i also installed a rv light under the topper so when i raise it there is plenty of light works great.
Anyone looked at the Undercover tops? www.undercoverinfo.com for info. It's made of ABS and can be removed by one person. I was looking at these because it can be removed by one person like a vinyl top but secure like a glass one.
Not a comment but a question because I didn't see it on the Website. Can the undercover be painted body color since it is ABS? All the ones in the ad appear satin black.
One of the reasons (there were several) I chose the Snug Lid f2 was because I could get it body color, Dark Shadow Grey Mettalic.
Also a big plus for the Snug Lid is the mounting system clamps to the rails, no holes drilled. Others are built in light, carpeted, lock, etc.
Thanks

I don't know what your price range is but, I would recommend a roll up such as the Truxedo Lo Pro QT or even the new Truxedo Deuce which should be available later this month. Both covers roll up and out of the way. If you get the new Truxedo Lo Pro QT you can roll the cover all the way open in minutes or even remove the entire system in 5 minutes.
I have a Century fiberclass cover on my 1999 f-350. It looks good and works well but I had a rew issues. The first is that I could not haul large packages without removing the cover. The second is that it takes two (large) guys to remove and replace to cover due to its weight.
When I bought a 2006 F-150 I decided to put a light weight folding cover. I opted for the Peragan folding cover which solves the problems I had with the fiberclass cover. The fiberclass, however, does look better.
