I have the Fold-A-Cover on my Screw and love it. It is four panels and will fold up on top of itself right behind the cab. Haven't noticed any leaks so far and we have gotten a ton of rain around here lately. The one thing I don't like about it is that you can't open it with one hand which seems petty, but when you are carrying something that you would like to put under it, you have to have both hands free to open it. Other than that, it is a really quality cover. Just my $.02.
What's the Peragon like for keeping things dry in the bed? They don't claim to be waterproof but I wondered how good it does in the rain/snow. Are there any holes to drill on the current F150's?
Its weather proof but not water proof. I installed the cover in december and we won't get rain (just snow for now) till march/april in Maine so I can't say how waterproof it will be. You have to drill two holes to mount the rear brackets. All and all Ihave been vert pleased with the cover.
I have an Advance Cover folding cover. I've had it for over 1.5 years and love it. Both ends lock, it can be removed and put back on in only several minutes (3-5).
The Advance cover isn't water proof - but it is very pretty water resistant.
All of the top-side hinges are sealed with a strip of rubber. The outer edges of the cover are on rubber strips.
There are no drain holes to drill, as the cover lays on top of the bed rails and tailgate. This cover either folds back out of the way, or is easily removed - as compared to soft covers that are rolled back, or one piece hard covers which I would imagine could be cumbersome to remove.
My truck went to the shop today, but I can post some close-up pics Friday evening if you want to see.
Thanks for the info. I dropped into a performance shop yesterday and looked at their mini display version of the Advance cover. It may be just their display but the rear flap seal was torn where a lever extended out that opens the rear panel. I don't know if this is what the back of a real cover looks like or not.
I'd like a cover that is reasonably secure and can be moved out of the way if I have to put something large in the box.
PlayersZ28, if it's only a slit in the thin rubber seal, that's supposed to be there. The lever to release the locking mechanism is supposed to be positioned in that slit. The slit is about 2" long or so. Since it was a display, somebody could have torn that seal intentionally. It's pretty durable material, I don't see it getting torn with normal usage.
The cover is nice, as well as versatile. The three rear panels can be folded back onto the front-most panel and secured there with the nylon straps and snaps. The front panel can also be opened to stow or retrieve something towards the front of the bed.
The front panel closest to the cab and the rear panel at the tailgate are lockable. The cover can't be easily removed by thieves since they can't get to the hardware under the cover with it locked. As I said earlier - the cover is easily removable by folding the cover back towards the cab and loosening two screws secured by locknuts and lifting the cover off. It's advertised to weigh 40 lbs or so, and that's probably pretty close. Easily manageable when folded up. When I take mine off - I just stand it up in the garage.
I should also note there is NO drilling or cutting required to do the install, unless you have a bedliner that goes over the rail. I have an under the rail liner, and there were no mods required. All of the hardware is held in place by small aluminum "C" type clamps with stainless screws and locknuts.
for those that have the BAK flip, how dry does it stay? I've pretty much narrowed down to it. Just wanting to hear a few more real life experiences
I have had zero water get into the bed. Granted I stay garaged at night while at home, but it is out all week during the day/evening, and so far I have seen ice/snow/rain and no issues. I went with the BAKFlip since it is the only hard folding cover that sits flush inside the bed rails I could find. They have great customer service also, and stand behind their product.
I have a Access brand bed cover, and i love it. It has been on the truck over 2 years now and the velcro edge strips are still doing great. ( I was very worried about that.)
What I really like about like about this cover is that it can be opened and then closed again in cold weather. The cross bars roll up with the cover, and the tailgate bar is made to pull the cover tight with little effort. My Extang cover was a real bummer below 50f with no sun to warm it up!
