Hi, I am at idle here untill my Z5 tranny gets finished. I was just wondering what the offroad logo on the back of my truck means. 94 1/2 powerstroke F250.

I had heard the rear was different maybe locked or something similar

 

No probably not my 95 was 4x4 offroad with an open rear diff. it would make sense to add limited slip but I don't think it part of the package.

 

The tag on my differential says 3L55 and it does seem like a locker though. Backing up or going foward in two wheel drive both wheels will start spinning at the same time. In fourwheel drive turning on a grade the back end wants to slide down the grade pretty easy,feeling like a full locker.

I can't remember exactly what other letter is supposed to be on the diff tag but your is a standard open. I wondered about mine (4L10) and called ford.

 

I'm not aware of any locking differential offered in any of the big three untill pretty recently. Even then they are always slectable because lockers are a pain in the rear, so to speak. Theres a world of difference between Locking Differential and a Limited Slip Differential (And I spool I suppose.)

if the tag on your rear diff cover says 3L55 or 4L10 you have limited slip differentials
if it just says 355 or 410 you have open diffs unless somebody has changed the rear diff carrier.

 

Like I said it was something I had heard Limited slip was what I was thinking of thanks for the clarification

 

you cant forget the decals along with the skid plates...otherwise people wouldnt know there are extra skid plates for you to take it hardcore offroad style. So the decals were part of the package too!

 

oh yeah the most important part! I can't believe I forgot that! thanks for keeping me at the top of my game!!!!

 

supposedly heavier shocks, too. I know the limited slip came with one of the pkgs, can't remember if it was the off road or the towing pkg.

 

I have the skid plates but now "off road" decal. Mine does say 4x4 on it though.

TJ thats what it was. I knew it was something with L. Mine just had the "." on it.
